Challenge Almere-Amsterdam 2017
A few miles east of Amsterdam,the whole region of what is now called Flevoland didn’t exist until 1976 - until then it was under the sea. It was reclaimed, and is now characterised by dikes, windmills, nature reserves and endless straight roads.
The new city of Almere organised the
World Age Group Aquathlon Championships, Pendicton, Canada.
Huge congratulations to Wight Tri member, 19 year old Aidan Pierce from Winford, who has won a bronze medal at the World Age Group Aquathlon Championships in Pendicton, Canada. Having just taking up Triathlon in the past two years and more recently represented the
Extreme temperatures in the week leading up to the race heated the usually cool Lake Allier to near swimming pool temperatures and all week there were rumours that it will be a non-wetsuit swim and this was confirmed when it was officially measured an hour before the race.
We’d both done
Simon Jones of Wight Tri and part of the IW Talented Athlete Scheme, represented Team GB for the second time at the European Age Group Sprint Duathlon Championships in Kalkur, Germany.
Simon had an excellent first 5km run of 18.52 to enter T1 in 4th position and first GB athlete. However
Wight Tri member, Liz Dunlop had a storming race, competing in the first of the European Age Group Triathlon Championship races on the Friday, taking place around the Park of Nations on the east side of Lisbon, Portugal.
