if you run your road tyres at a high pressure you should be OK 100psi+ should do it. If you look at the Training forum there is stuff on there under Gary's thred about cyclo cross tyres as well.

Hi Admiral Goose
I can recommend someone who can show you how to repair punctures, i.e our very own Christine.  Over the last 2 weekends she has had 2 punctures, but has had to change tyre about 3 times, due to problems with valves.  I recommend her as from taking almost half an hour the first time, she got it down to 22 mins and that was the rear tyre.  3 cheers for CJ, hip, hip, hoorah Smiley Cool Grin Cool

Thanks for the offer I haven't had a puncture yet so nothing to practice on (hope I'm not tempting fate). I will invest in some tubes just incase. Smiley

Gather from 9.30am
Briefing at 9.45am
Start by 10am latest
Choice of bike up to you, the bike course is all road but as it's nominated you can factor that in with your bike choice.
If you want to bring your puncture I'll give a quick lesson in fixing it. Or bring a tube and make a swap and fix at home at your leisure.

Has a start time been decided yet? A little worried about tyres (can't mend a puncture yet) would it be better to use mountain bike?  Undecided

Thanks Dave
I have advertised it as 3.5/17/3.5 for the long course and 1.5/10/1.5 for the short course.  However, we can let competitors know the correct distances when they contact us via the forum or on the day.

Hope to see you all on friday at the AGM/social evening  .. (almost said p...s u.?????)
Cheers Liz

er I did the distances and wrote them down but have now put that piece of paper somewhere 'safe'. I remember the distances being fairly short - the kind of thing Dave does in his sleep.

As a warning, and in direct contrast to the facilities at the last event, the duo on the 6th has absolutely no facilities. There is a forest with undergrowth, and leaves for those of you dead keen to wipe. But that's it.

It's one of those HTFU events.

Hi Simon
Sound like a good course!!
Smiley
What are the approximate distances for the duathlon.  I would like to add in information for this duathlon to the CP report for Yaverland duathlon.
Cheers Liz

Thank you for that ringing endorsement from our Middle Eastern correspondent.

If the roads are too icy then we do have a little surprise as an alternative to the bike leg.

This was a good'un last year, despite the cycle being cancelled due to the ice!

Was a really nice little run course, enjoyed that one a lot.

The bike

Head away, north, from s/f/t and follow the road to the next 'T' junction. Turn left onto Rolls Hill, follow this down and up, passed the lane heading to the entrance for Thorness Bay Holiday camp on your right, up a bit and a right and a left.
There is then a sharp right bend.

Short course - go straight on along Little Whitehouse Road (it's technically a left turn) and follow this to the cross roads with the Forest Road with Betty Haunt Lane opposite. Turn left onto Forest Road.

Long course - follow the road sharp right onto Corf Road and then follow this through Porchfield on to Shalfleet - you don't turn off until you take the left at Shalfleet garage. Onto Forest Road and back towards Newport.

Both bike courses – along Forest Road, straight on at the lights to the left turn/filter so you pass the hospital (on your right) and prisons (on your left). Up Horsebridge Hill and then left just after the Pelican crossing onto Noke Common. Follow this around the sharp right hand bend and then back to s/f/t.

“By jove,” you cry, “this is a lark.” and off you go for your second run.

Marks Corner Duo 6th December

OK, everyone ready for the next one?

This is a brief course outline, Tim (GHOST) and I will be sorting maps etc over the next couple of weeks.

Marks Corner is on Hillis Gate Road. The start / finish / transition (s/f/t) is at the most northerly bit of Parkhurst Forest. If you type Marks Corner iow into Google Maps you get an 'A' marker in the middle of the field but where Parkhurst Forest is labelled on the satellite map is the s/f/t.

The run

From the start head east along the road and up hill. Follow the road until it gets to the dead end and then take the footpath, which is sign posted, as straight on. It’s then a narrow track down hill and through a big wooden arch. The track curves left and comes out on a fire trail in the forest. It's then a left turn and up hill until you get to the 'T' junction at the top.

Short course - left and follow the fire trail back down to s/f/t

Long course - right, down hill, keep left at the junction. Pass a track on your right and up hill and this then drops down hill to the road at Noke Common. Out of the forest and left onto the road back to s/f/t.

Fire trails are the broad, gravelly tracks in the forest, the only narrow bit is the footpath down to the wooden arch.
