Wight Tri presents… StubbingNOT!

Lively gales welcomed approximately 100 hardy runners to Yaverland for the annual ‘definitely not Stubbington’ 10k this morning. The route? A simple trot to Shanklin and back. The conditions? Think exfoliation by sand with a sideways wind that could relocate unsecured pets and small children.

Before the start, Wight Tri held a raffle for its members- for a coveted (and slightly terrifying) Isle of Wight Marathon entry. Congratulations—and condolences—to Hannah Bryant and David Squirrell who will now be training whether they like it or not.

The outward leg featured a complimentary facial dermabrasion, prompting several sensible humans to turn back early. The rest soldiered on, powered by grit and determination. For the return, runners fortunately had a ‘sand fuelled’ tailwind and the promise of cake .

At the finish, hot drinks and baked delights were inhaled at speed, PBs were celebrated with enthusiastic back‑slapping and runners contributing to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice bucket-thank you to everyone who donated.

Huge shout out to our volunteer dream team: Neil Cooper, Anne & Steve Dines, Mike Kimber, Lucy Doorly, Paddy Condy and Elaine Spear. Without you, we’d just be a group of cold people running in circles.

All abilities welcome—especially those who enjoy being sandblasted before 11am on a Sunday morning.
