Carisbrooke Duathlon

Chronicles of the Carisbrooke Duathlon

On this brisk morn, thirty brave knights of Wight Tri assembled on the outskirts of Carisbrooke Castle, ready to test their mettle in the noble Duathlon. The Priory car park became a bustling marketplace of steeds (the peddle variety) as new squires joined the Fellowship —welcome to the realm!

The Quest:

The Run Leg: One or two laps through the winding castle streets, ending with a lung busting dash up the shrubbery—truly a climb fit for heroes.

The Bike Leg: An undulating journey: a swift descent into Carisbrooke, a climb toward Shorwell’s heights and a blustery joust with a dragon’s breath of a headwind turning into Billingham for the return.

The Prophecy of Times: winners of the nominated time.

• Lady Kellie Carmichael—32 seconds shy of her foresight

• Sir Jack Elton-Walter—missed his mark only by 31 seconds

• Champion Sean Williams—within 15 seconds of destiny, claiming the crown of accuracy!

Fastest over the Long bike Long course? What a surprise King Craig Wilson in 1:18:06. For the Short bike Short course and back with a blast Sir Dean Pike in 58:48 no ankle injury stopping him. For the ladies newbie Princess Jade Davies in 1:07:04. A most wondrous spectacle!

The event wasn’t without its drama- One of our crew pulled off the ultimate post‑event blooper—parked their bike against their van - then hit the gas and drove off, not mentioning any names!!!

Huzzah! and many thanks to all our valiant volunteers - Nick Kenney, Steve & Anne Dines, Neil Cooper, Martin Goodall, Kevin Winchcombe, Loic Le Floic & Mike Kimber.

Thus ended the day’s contest, with a ‘bake off’ battle. The worthy winner Mr Steve ‘Date’ Dines with his masterpiece fit for weary soldiers.
